Homemade Cast Iron Skillet Pizza

I wanted to fix something that would come together quick for dinner tonight and I decided on pizza.  I could have gone with real quick and popped in a frozen pizza, but I wanted to fix my family a homemade dinner.

I’ve been making homemade pizza for several years now, but I just recently started making my own pizza crust.  It’s really doesn’t take that much longer than making it from a pouch.  Something that takes it over the top…bake it in a cast iron skillet!

Prepare dough and let it rise for 15-20 minutespizza-dough

Next I turn it out into the oiled cast iron skillet.  I brush it with Olive Oil and sprinkle it with garlic powder and Italian seasoning.

Prick the dough with a fork all over and then bake it at 425 for 5 minutes.

Take it out of the oven and top it with the toppings you desire.  We used marinara that I made this summer from the tomatoes in our garden.  Then topped it with pepperoni’s and mozzarella cheese.

Bake it again at 425 for 15-20 minutes until it’s bubbly and brown.

Dinner came together nice and quick and I served it with a side salad with lettuce from my Fall garden.  I really enjoy cooking from scratch and serving my family food that I have made from the veggies I have grown.

The cast iron skillet made the crust nice and crispy!  The only downside…we never have any leftovers!

Do you cook much with cast iron?  What are some of your favorite recipes?

Well, now thinking of making a pizza in my cast iron – yours looked so yummy. I use mine pretty often too, not quite as much as in previous years. Our wood stove is out of order while we renovate our house. I love to cook on top of the wood stove with the cast iron, especially when the power goes out and I don’t have any other option. I run a small farm stand on my property, this year one of the new things I am offering for sale are sweet treats that are baked in cast iron. Happy cooking – kim
