Cutting the Grocery Bill – Follow up

Well it’s been three weeks since I decided to use up the stock pile of food that we have in our pantry and freezer.  Those three weeks went rather well.  I spent $28 at the store the first week, $40 the second week and $65 the third week.  This was picking up things like milk, fruit, cheese and chips.  My average grocery bill is $100-$150.  I figure we saved at least $195 between the three weeks!  And that’s being conservative.

The third week was more of a challenge as the stock pile was thinning out and required a bit more from the grocery store.

A lot of the ingredients we have left would be great in the cooler months.  There are several cans of beans and bags of pasta.  I just need to get creative and come up with some warmer weather recipes.  Pinterest here I come!

This next week’s menu is using just a few things from the pantry and freezer.  It’s going to be a busy week so, I planned dinners accordingly and that required a larger shopping trip.  I budgeted $100 and I spent $100.01!  I was getting nervous at the checkout.  I only use cash and I thought I was going to have to put something back.  Wanna stay on budget?  Go to the store with cash.  That will keep you from putting extra things in that cart.

All this extra money is going straight to the mortgage.  What’s that saying…’How do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.’  That’s how this house is getting paid for.  One dollar at a time and every one of them counts!
