Today is the 1st day of October and it was absolutely beautiful! It was a busy, yet fulfilling day. I spent the day some of the things I love to do.
We started the day with a trip into town. We took a walk on one of the many trails they have around town. It was a nice change from the treadmill. After some errands, we came home and I started tackling my to do list.
- Bird feeders
- Decorate for Fall & Halloween
- Pick veggies from garden (tomatoes & peppers).
- Make spaghetti sauce
- Prep dinner
- Make a pumpkin pie
I spent most of the day cleaning out the flower beds and gardens. It’s such a rewarding job. I love seeing the before and after. I found some old pavers and bricks and made some stepping stones. Then my daughter joined me and we set out several pumpkins that we had picked from the garden.
The front flower garden is looking like Fall now.
Here’s the side garden.
I had some visitors while I was working on the back of the house. Mr Walking Stick & Mr Tree Frog.
Here’s the neat and tidy beds on the back of the house.
I forgot to snap pictures of the other two beds/gardens, but here’s the trailer full of debris that I pulled out/trimmed up today. This is now the start of a new compost pile.
I moved on to picking tomatoes and peppers once the trailer was cleaned out. I separated them into two batches. Those that are ready for processing and those that need to ripen some more. My kitchen quickly became a mess! I put those that were ready to be processed in a sink of warm water to get them cleaned up. (next to the humming bird feeders that need to be cleaned up for storage.) I got the tomatoes cleaned and cored tonight. They’ll sit in the fridge tonight and I’ll blanch and skin them tomorrow night. I ran out of time and steam…
We put a slab of ribs in the smoker this afternoon. Dinner was delicious!! I was too hungry to stop and snap a picture of my plate. I made cast iron skillet scalloped potatoes to go with the ribs. I found that wonderful recipe on Pinterest.
I promised some co-workers a pumpkin pie for Monday, so I made sure to take the time to whip that up. This is my first time making one from scratch. They said they were happy to be my guinea pigs. LOL! I pureed the pumpkin a couple weekends ago and froze it in 2 cup batches.
I didn’t get around to getting out the Fall & Halloween decorations. Those will have to wait until one night this week or next weekend.
Now I’m relaxing and watching Sunday Night Football while the pumpkin pie is cooling and the last load of laundry is in the washer.
It was a busy, beautiful day. They just don’t get much better than this.
I hope you had a great weekend too!
